I had a sneaking suspicion that if not an outright pet or ally, 'Fluffy' was at least non-hostile or friendly toward Aurele and it might have been her who set the limit of people allowed to be in a group.

Why would she? He's clearly important to her. Else she wouldn't protect him from Senya's attacks. But... why exactly is he needed? That is yet to be discovered
