Well, the hanging appearance suggest they are rope bridges, and the skroig can clearly climb the outside of their hive without problem.
The bridges were probably made on the ground, and then two worker teams grabbed each end and climbed up the side of the hives. When at the right height the bridge ends were fastened.

That would be... a big pile of s.
But honestly, no, not this time. As you can see some of the workers on this page are using their saliva. This is the same one that skrog soldiers used to glue the captive girl to the back of one of them. As for what exactly they use to build the hive from - it could be anything. Stone, soil, wood, sand. Anything that the forest can provide.

Are you sure? They have to put the sh*t someplace, and nobody wants to carry it farther than they have to.
